The Black Market is Albion Online's ultimate silver sink. Learn how the BM algorithm works, what items to craft, and how to survive the transport to Caerleon.

If you want to understand the true engine of Albion Online's economy, you have to look at the center of the Royal Continent: Caerleon. Specifically, a single NPC located in the murky northern corner of the city known as the Black Market.

While most crafters are fighting tooth and nail to undercut each other by 1 silver on the Royal City auction houses, billionaire crafters are quietly funneling thousands of items into the Black Market every single day. Here is exactly how they do it.

## How the Black Market Algorithm Actually Works

The Black Market is not a normal player-driven auction house. It is the system Albion Online uses to generate loot for the entire game [web:14]. When a player opens a chest in a Solo Dungeon or kills a mob in the Black Zone, the game doesn't just spawn an item out of thin air. Instead, it creates a "Buy Order" on the Black Market.

If no player fills that Buy Order, the Black Market automatically increases the price it is willing to pay. This price will keep going up and up until a crafter finally sells the item to the NPC. Once the NPC buys the item, it gets teleported into the loot chest for the PvE player to find.

Because prices constantly rise until an item is sold, the Black Market frequently pays 20% to 50% *more* for basic items than regular players in Royal Cities.

## What to Craft for the Black Market

The biggest mistake beginners make is crafting expensive, high-tier artifact weapons for the Black Market. The NPC rarely buys Tier 8.4 Avalonian weapons because PvE players rarely drop them in chests.

The Black Market has an insatiable appetite for **high-volume, low-tier, non-artifact gear** [web:14]. We are talking about flat Tier 4, Tier 4.1, and Tier 5 items.

- Mercenary Jackets

- Scholar Cowls

- Broadswords

- Hunter Shoes

These are the items that drop in thousands of low-level dungeons every hour. A veteran BM crafter will craft 1,000 flat Tier 4 Hunter Shoes, transport them, and sell them all in a single afternoon. The margin per item might only be 1,000 silver, but the volume makes it a million-silver trip.

## The Crafter's Routine vs. The Trader's Routine

There are two ways to play the Black Market:

- **The Flipper (Trader):** You buy items on the Royal City auction houses that are priced lower than the Black Market Buy Orders, transport them, and pocket the difference.

- **The Crafter:** You buy raw materials using Buy Orders, use City Crafting Bonuses to get resources back, craft the items, and sell them to the BM.

The Crafter method is infinitely more profitable because you stack the city crafting bonus (Resource Return Rate) on top of the Black Market's inflated prices [web:14].

## Surviving the Transport (Risk Management)

Caerleon is surrounded by Red Zones. If you die here, you lose everything in your inventory. This is the barrier to entry that keeps the Black Market so profitable. To survive, you must follow strict rules:

- **Never Overload:** If you use a Transport Ox and get dismounted by gankers, you will instantly become overweight and unable to move. You are a sitting duck. Instead, use a Saddle Wild Boar or a Grizzly Bear. These mounts give you passive carry weight; if you get dismounted, you can still run away at full speed.

- **Batch Sizing:** Never transport your entire net worth in one trip. Divide your cargo into 3 or 4 smaller trips. If a massive ganking group catches you, you only lose 25% of your daily profit, not your entire economy.

- **The "Free Trip" Mistake:** Never blind-transport. Before you leave a Royal City, have a naked alternate character (alt) parked at the Black Market in Caerleon. Log into the alt, check the exact prices of the items you want to transport, and make sure the margin is worth the risk. Do not risk your life for items the NPC isn't currently buying.
